(ANSA) – PALERMO, 10 MAY – Half of the most beautiful places in Sicily are located along the coast of the province of Messina, which wins 50% of the blue flags assigned to the island this year by the Foundation for Environmental Education (Fee) , an international NGO that awards the prestigious recognition on the basis of precise parameters: sea result “excellent” in the last four years, efficiency of the purification of waste water and sewage network, separate waste collection, large pedestrian areas, cycle paths, well-kept street furniture, areas greens.
The recognition went to Sicily in ten locations, two more than last year: Roccalumera (Me) and Modica (Rg).
In the top ten there are, in addition to the two new entries, Alì Terme, Santa Teresa di Riva, Lipari (in the Aeolian Islands) and Tusa in the Messina area; Menfi in the Agrigento area; Ispica, Pozzallo and Marina di Ragusa.
In Sicily there is also one of the tourist ports that have received the recognition: it is that of Capo d’Orlando, also in the Messina area.
According to the NGO, the port of contrada Bagnoli complied with the requirements for international assignment “guaranteeing the quality and quantity of the services provided in full environmental compatibility”, as stated in the motivation.
“Excellent services on a human scale and respecting the environment must represent Capo d’Orlando normality and for the entire area in order to become an added value in the tourist proposal”, say the mayor of the Messina municipality Franco Ingrillì and the councilor Fabio Colombo. (HANDLE).
