Biagio Conte mission in Palermo, 180 free dental services for guests

I’m 180 free dental services which were performed to guests of the Mission Hope and Charity by Biagio Conte. The data emerged during the conference “Emergency Dentistry'” which is taking place in the structure in via Archirafi in which the balance sheet of the Solidarity Dentistry study hope and charity was presented. During the morning it was also announced for January, an oral screening thanks to the collaboration of the Rotary Club Palermo Montepellegrino to drastically reduce avulsions.

Conservative treatments, i.e. fillings, were the vast majority, around 60%, then teeth cleaning followed by oral hygiene education around 30% and root canal therapies (devitalization of teeth) around 10%.

“Thanks to the collaboration of various dental laboratories – explain the volunteer dentists of the Mission – we have also created removable prostheses, which have restored the masticatory function and we expect that this will become an increasingly frequent possibility in consideration of the discomfort experienced by these brothers and sisters guests of the Mission . Thanks to the collaboration with the Itcg Merendino dental technician school in Capo d’Orlando, through the “Service learning” project, we will be able to give more answers to the numerous requests that arrive”

”The increased number of poor people in our city – explains the doctor Giacinto Marra – has made it necessary to give, in addition to hospitality and a hot meal, also answers on the health level, by volunteer doctors and dentists. In the light of our experience, during this first year of activity in the ‘Hope and Charity Solidarity Dentistry’ practice, there are all the prerequisites for making it a point of reference as a health facility for prevention and oral care activities, so much so that it deserves to join Rotary’s Paul Harris Houses as a ‘House of Smiles’”.
