Balances: the start in Sicily between hopes and fears for inflation

(ANSA) – PALERMO, 02 JAN – “With the start of the sales in Sicily starting today we hope to give a further shock to consumption on the island which, fortunately, in the days before Christmas, recorded a more decisive compared to that of other years, on a +5.6% (data from our research office) which allow us to prelude the best, especially in the large Sicilian cities”. This was stated by the regional president of Confcommercio Sicily, Gianluca Manenti, greeting the start of the winter discounts on the island until March 15, 2023. The region anticipates the starting table of the national sales by a few days where they will instead start from January 5.

“The start of the reduced prices on January 2 will be good for trade and consumers. – says the regional councilor for productive activities, Edy Tamajo – the measure that we have shared in agreement with the associations that represent small traders, has in fact precisely the purpose of giving lifeblood to shopkeepers who will be able to collect liquidity essential for their survival and provide better purchasing opportunities for users”. The programming, established with a decree last April by the Regional Department of Productive Activities, provides for the winter sales from 2 January to 15 March 2023, while the summer ones from 1 July to 15 September 2023. The periods for the promotional sales: from 16 March to 30 June and from 16 September to 31 December 2023. According to data from the Federconsumatori National Observatory, only 24% of Italian families will buy something, with an average expenditure per family of 178.60 euros (in down 3% from last year’s balances). In Sicily, these figures will probably be even lower given the purchasing power of Sicilians, considerably below the Italian national average. “The winter sales have officially started today: a start, however, only formal, since in fact they have already started for days throughout the island”, says Codacons. .
