Aurora ship halted for 20 days, docks at Lampedusa instead of heading to Trapani.
The Sea Watch NGO’s ship, Aurora, which had originally been instructed to head to Trapani as a safe port, instead docked at Lampedusa and disembarked 72 migrants. The ship has been placed under administrative detention for 20 days. The coast guard inspected all documents and checked the technical instruments, while the police questioned the rescued migrants. The captain of the ship and the ship’s owner have been penalized. They have 60 days to pay a reduced fine of €3,333. The ship’s actions disregarded Libyan authority’s instructions and contributed to a potentially dangerous situation onboard.
