Arrests made in Catania for Covid funds fraud and favoritism towards clans.

The police are executing detention orders issued by the Gip of Catania, at the request of the local District Attorney’s Office, against about ten individuals as part of an investigation called Lockdown, regarding an alleged criminal association aimed at scams against the State, with the aggravating circumstances of facilitating the Santapaola-Ercolano mafia association. The judge has ordered the preventive seizure, also as an equivalent, of the amount of 380,100 euros against the recipients of the restrictive measure, as well as numerous other beneficiaries of undue financial aid provided to face the Covid-19 emergency. Over 100 men from the central operational service, the Catania Police Headquarters, and the crime prevention unit are involved in the execution of the provision.
