A tragic road accident in Catania: a few kilometers from Sigonella, an American military stationed at the air base lost his life. He was involved in a crash on State Road 192, in the Passo Martino area.

The soldier was riding a Yamaha Ténéré motorcycle when he collided with a car traveling on the opposite lane. The head-on collision was very violent: the soldier was thrown from the saddle and landed on the asphalt, sustaining fatal injuries. Despite the arrival of medical personnel and an ambulance, and even a helicopter rescue, there was nothing that could be done to save him.

Three years ago, another soldier from the Sigonella base lost his life in the province of Catania, while surfing in Acitrezza. His sister, who was with him at the beach, raised the alarm when she found his hat and surfboard floating, but he did not return to shore. Search efforts quickly found him lifeless two miles off the coast.
