African dominance in Palermo half marathon: Favorite Irabaruta emerges victorious

The Palermo International Half Marathon Trofeo Nissan Comer Sud saw a record number of participants (1627) and the best lap record remains at 1:02:29 from 2019. The Burundian athlete Olivier Irabaruta emerged as the winner, finishing in first place at 1:05:02, followed by his countryman Leonce Bukuru (1:05:55) and Kenyan Kisorio Hosea Kimeli (1:06:57). The top Italian runner and fourth overall, as well as the Italian SM 35 champion, was Alessandro Brancato of Asd Sicilia Running Team with a time of 1:07:13. The podium for women was dominated by Kenyan athletes, with Emily Chepkemoi Cheroben of Atletica Castello winning in 1:15:50, followed by Nancy Kerage Kerubo of ACSI Campidoglio Palatino (1:18:53) and Simona Santini of Circolo Minerva (1:20:44). In the 9.5 kilometer race, Bibi Hamad of Asd Palermo placed first, with Edit Filo winning the women’s category. The Dynanik Fitness and Atletica Paratico teams were victorious in the Italian Master Half Marathon championships. The event was a great success, with a record number of participants and positive feedback from the athletes, and plans to expand the event internationally in partnership with the Malta Marathon.
