In recent weeks, the A18 and A20 motorways have been involved in a very intense activity of monitoring and structural redevelopment, with interventions where possible even at night. The dense program, initiated by Autostrade Siciliane, aims to quickly restore a more fluid travel condition, in particular on the Messina ring road, and in the medium term to bring about the final safe renewal of the approximately 300 kilometers managed.
According to the time schedule, on Monday 10 May the georadar surveys on the Briga, Vallediana, S. Chiara, Schiavo, Serra, Caccamo, Velardi and S. Stefano tunnels will be launched on the Messina-Catania. In order to allow structural monitoring, traffic on the carriageway in the direction of Messina will be reduced until Friday 14, between km. 7,200 and km. 3,500. Only on 17 and 18 May the same valley carriageway will remain closed between km. 12.368 and km. 3.447. Traffic will be diverted in a two-way traffic to the opposite lane.
On Messina Palermo, structural investigations on flyovers also continue and from Monday, until the end of the month, some sections in both directions of travel will be alternately partialized, in order to put all the bridges under the lens. Furthermore, from Tuesday to Thursday load tests will be carried out on the two spans of the Zappulla viaduct, which lies between the municipalities of Rocca di Caprileone and Capo D’Orlando. To verify its structural elasticity, on 11 and 12 the valley carriageway will be closed (towards Messina) and on 13 and 14 the upstream carriageway (towards Catania). In both cases, the vehicles will be diverted to the opposite lane with two-way traffic.
For the safety of all travelers and in compliance with the ministerial provisions, it is always recommended to respect the road signs, speed limits and the prohibition of overtaking on the motorway sections concerned.
