The Carabinieri for the protection of the cultural heritage of Palermo have recovered a precious document belonging to the historical archive of Castelmola, a small town in Messina located on the rock overlooking Taormina. The document, a circular from 1849 issued by the Minister of the Interior and Public Safety against desertion, was found during a criminal procedure by the special unit of the Carabinieri in Palermo, in collaboration with the archivists. The document was in the possession of a private individual ready to be sold at auction. The Mayor of Castelmola thanked the authorities for their work in protecting and controlling historical documents in the antiquarian market, allowing the town to recover an important piece of its history.
