Sixty wineries, over 600 labels, and a series of meetings with experts in the field will be the protagonists of the sixth edition of Wine Sicily, an event dedicated to Sicilian wine, scheduled for Saturday, October 12 and Sunday, October 13 at the Botanical Garden of the University of Palermo, of which the Giornale di Sicilia is a media partner. After the success of previous editions, with over six thousand participants last year and over 5,000 during the national and international stages in Turin and London, the event confirms itself as a significant appointment for wine lovers. The third day, Monday, October 14, will be reserved for professionals in the wine sector.

This year’s edition has obtained the patronage of the Ministry of Made in Italy. Minister Adolfo Urso stated: “Palermo becomes for three days the capital of the enological culture of the region, offering a unique opportunity for meeting, discovery, and celebration of the extraordinary Sicilian wineries.” During the event, there will be tastings of the best Sicilian wines, meetings with experts, and thematic workshops. The Wine Sicily Prize will also return, which will be awarded by a jury of 10 wine bloggers from all over Italy, coordinated by Ugo Cosentino and Ilaria Cappuccini. The jury will visit the main wine shops in Palermo to taste the wines of the participating wineries, determining the winner at the end of the tour.

Among the wineries present are renowned names such as Tasca d’Almerita, Duca di Salaparuta, Planeta, Donnafugata, and Florio, alongside emerging realities such as Tenute Nicosia, Tenute La Favola, and Costantino Wines. There will also be room for Sicilian spirits with the tasting of local gins and amari.

Various appointments are planned, including two masterclasses: on Saturday, the Tenute Nicosia company will present “Volcanic Wines at High Altitude,” while on Sunday, the Tonnino company will talk about the Chenin Blanc and Pinot Grigio varieties. Both masterclasses are organized in collaboration with Le Vie dei Tesori. The weekend talks will feature Women of Wine – Sicily on Saturday and Next Generation on Sunday. In addition, on Sunday at 1 pm, at the Talea area, there will be the Wine Sicily Brunch in collaboration with the Ustica Marine Protected Area.

Eduardo De Filippis, co-founder of Wine Sicily, emphasized: “We want to expand the boundaries of our event, which over the years has given us great satisfaction. This year we are proud to have the patronage of the Ministry of Made in Italy.” Lorenzo Barbera, marketing director of Wine Sicily, added: “Sicily has the greatest biodiversity in Italy, and this is also reflected in the world of wine, where local varieties offer a unique experience.”
