23-year-old in a coma after dramatic collision between two motorcycles in Taormina

An accident occurred yesterday on state road 114, in Taormina, with a young man ending up in a coma after a terrible clash with another vehicle. Two motorcycles collided head-on in the seaside fraction of Spisone, near the La Caravella beach. Involved in the accident, which occurred around 5pm, were a scooter driven by a 23-year-old man from Letojanni traveling towards Catania and a Ktm motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, driven by a 39-year-old man from S. Teresa di Riva. The collision took place on the uphill lane towards the city of Catania, in a semi-curved section, and the condition of the 23-year-old young man, F. C., seemed very serious from the beginning. After receiving initial medical aid at the scene, he was transferred in a critical condition by an ambulance from the 118 emergency service to the San Vincenzo hospital in Taormina, where he is in intensive care with a guarded prognosis. The other man, a 39-year-old, A. O., was instead taken to the Gaetano Martino Polyclinic in Messina with various fractures, and his condition is less serious. The collision may have been caused by a lane invasion that prevented the two drivers from avoiding the head-on impact.
