A 14-year-old boy from Gela, in the province of Caltanissetta, is in serious condition at Cannizzaro Hospital in Catania after shooting himself in the head. Police are investigating whether it was a suicide attempt or an accident. Officers arrived at a home on via Pitagora shortly after midnight where the boy was found by his mother lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Both of the boy’s parents work for a private security company. The boy, who was home alone at the time of the incident, is believed to have used his mother’s gun and it is not clear whether he shot himself or if the gun went off accidentally.
