13 arrested in drug rivers flowing between Messina, Paternò, and Reggio Calabria

The Finance Guard in Messina is executing an order issued by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations (GIP) for the custodial detention of 13 individuals, who are being investigated for their involvement in drug trafficking as part of a criminal organization. The investigation began with a report from German customs officials who seized small quantities of drugs destined for the Peloritano area in Messina at Frankfurt airport. Further investigation revealed a more structured international drug trafficking network involving individuals residing in Messina. The investigation, which included surveillance, stakeouts, and interceptions of phone calls and environmental recordings, allowed authorities to reconstruct the roles and functions of each member of the criminal organization. The drugs were intended for a wide network of buyers residing in various towns in the Tyrrhenian area of Messina. The group was based in Sant’Angelo di Brolo and Raccuja and maintained close contact with members of the Bontempo Scavo mafia clan in Tortorici, as well as suppliers from Calabria and Catania, associated with the Pelle-Gambazza and Alleruzzo-Assinnata clans, respectively.
