In a little less than six months, there have been 20 transports and deliveries of large quantities of cocaine carried out by the criminal organization dismantled this morning by the police in Catania in the operation called Devotion. The operation shed light on a vast cocaine trafficking between Calabria and Sicily, leading to the arrest of 13 people, including residents of Catania and Calabria. They are being investigated for various charges related to drug trafficking, possession and carrying of firearms, and drug dealing.
An additional 16 people are also under investigation in the case. The Catania Mobile Squadra, with the collaboration of investigative authorities in Reggio Calabria and Siracusa, and support from the Central Operational Service under the coordination of the Central Anti-Crime Directorate of the State Police, carried out the operation with multiple teams from the Crime Prevention Department.
The restrictive measure follows the results of a complex and extensive investigative activity that started in June 2020. Initially focusing on the group led by Carmelo Scilio, a 50-year-old among the arrested, one of the most well-known cocaine traffickers in Catania. Investigators traced back to his cocaine supplier, the 40-year-old Calabrian Bruno Cidoni, who has been doing business with criminal groups in Catania for years and had established his operational base in the San Giovanni Galermo district of Catania. Throughout the investigation, several drug seizures (totaling 11 kilograms of cocaine) and weapons (a .38 special revolver with the serial number erased and ammunition) were made. Additionally, 90,300 euros in cash, hidden in a wall of Cidoni’s residence, were also seized.
The names of the arrested individuals in the Catania police operation Devotion are Giuseppe Addamo, 45 years old; Bruno Cidoni, 40; Luigi Danilo Garozzo, 31; Gino Gueli, 35; Francesco Mannino, 37; Antonio Pezzano, 32; Angelo Ribera, 37; Carmelo Scilio, 50; Francesco and Pietro Sedici, father and son, 53 and 34 years old respectively; Salvatore Torrisi, 61; Santo Vitale, 60; and Pasquale Zangari, 55.
