A playground in memory of the little boy Riccardo has been created. The association Officina Solidale donated a sum of 11,300 euros to make it possible. This amount was raised through the Gala di Riccardo, a charity event held at Palazzo Vigo, on the waterfront of Torre Archirafi in Riposto, Catania. The parents of Riccardo, Ines Salanitri and Marco Sorbello, along with the entire community, still feel the pain of his loss due to illness at the age of just over two years. However, they also have a strong desire to transform their suffering into positive energy. This led to the idea of creating something tangible for the community and families, a place where all children can play safely. The evening at Palazzo Vigo was organized by the Michelin-starred chef Giuseppe Raciti, the hotel specialist Roberta Previtera, and the association ‘Officina Solidale’. Thanks to the generous donations from participants, the set goal was achieved. This result was made possible through the tireless work of talented chefs and the participation of 30 local companies, who enthusiastically supported and provided resources for the event organization.
The musician and composer Roy Paci captivated the audience, accompanied by the talented guitarist Peppe Milia. The Sicilian artist wanted to be present, donating his art for this charity evening. Marco Maria Pennisi on drums and Salvo Camera on guitar further enriched the atmosphere with their extraordinary performances. A delicious menu delighted the taste buds of the attendees, and the flavors of the region blended in a harmonious gastronomic symphony. Eleven chefs joined the charitable initiative, offering their culinary expertise. During the welcome aperitif, guests were treated to dishes such as the “Ricordo di una pasta al forno” (Memory of a baked pasta), the “Trezza pork & Trezza bomb,” the “Terra in vista” (Land in sight), a sea and mountain dish of tuna belly and raw black Nebrodi pork, the “Caponata Mon Amour,” and a delicious “Nigiri di ricciola con salsa agli agrumi, menta e porro croccante” (Amberjack nigiri with citrus, mint, and crispy leek) accompanied by Tobiko, and an “insalatina di grano timilia e verdure” (timilia wheat and vegetable salad). The main menu, curated by the Michelin-starred chef Giuseppe Raciti, featured a variety of delicacies. It started with “Crudo di gambero rosso Pomodoro, fragola e yogurt” (Raw red shrimp with tomato, strawberry, and yogurt). This was followed by an appetizing “Il mio uovo poche croccante” (My crispy poached egg) with red mulberries and sweet provola cheese. An irresistible “Lasagnetta di pasta alla parmigiana di mare” (Lasagne with sea parmigiana) with tomato, eggplant, langoustine, and basil was one of the main courses. Finally, a delicious “Branzino allo scoglio” (Sea bass with seafood stew, potato, and oregano) completed the menu. The dessert buffet, created by the master pastry chef Giuseppe Bellia, ended the evening sweetly.
The evening was not only characterized by food and music but also featured art as a special component. Laura Calafiore created a painting that was donated by Eclittica, adding further value and meaning to the event. Everyone played their part for the success of the initiative. Among the many partners involved were the AIS Jonico-Etnea and Catania and the “G. Falcone” Hotel Institute in Giarre. The students of the school helped with welcoming the guests and serving at the tables. Lastly, crucial support from the mayor Davide Vasta and the municipal council of Riposto, who showed great sensitivity by providing the magnificent location of Palazzo Vigo. It was an unforgettable evening, a moment of solidarity that demonstrated the power of people coming together for a shared cause.
