11 migrant corpses arrive at Lampedusa, placed in the protected marine area premises.

Eleven bodies recovered yesterday (June 7) after a shipwreck off the Libyan coast have arrived in Lampedusa. The crew of the NGO ship Geo Barents, operated by Doctors Without Borders, made the recovery. The mayor of the Pelagie Islands, Filippo Mannino, has made facilities available in the Marine Protected Area while waiting for the bodies to be transferred to Porto Empedocle, as directed by the Agrigento prefecture. The bodies will be housed at the Caos hotspot upon arrival in Porto Empedocle. Local mayors in the Agrigento area have offered assistance with the future burials, as cemetery space is limited. The prefect Filippo Romano has also reached out to neighboring provinces, including Enna and Caltanissetta, to facilitate the burials.
